Our Snowboarding Programmes help you build confidence and skills on the slopes. Whether you’re new to snowboarding or looking to refine your technique, our experienced instructors will guide you step-by-step. Focused on progress and safety, we’ll ensure you feel comfortable and prepared to take on the mountain with ease.

You can attend our snowboarding programmes over the weekends or school holidays. Lessons take place in the morning, from 9.00AM-10.30AM.

7 Sundays Programme – train your snowboarding on seven consecutive Sundays.

Youth Beginner

Snowboard group lessons which take place at Porters Sun Kid Carpet and Platter Lift. Snowboarders aged 11-16 years learn how to stop, turn and control their speed before heading towards the platter and chairlift.

The focus of the programme is becoming familiar with snow and learning how to move around on a snowboard. Learning how to use edges on snow and using them to control speed and safely stopping in time. Using different ski lifts and exiting them properly. Our friendly team of instructors aim to make this an exciting winter experience for the youth and have them roaming the mountain safely.

An amazing start to your snowboarding adventure!

NZSIA level ability:

Level 1: No previous snowboarding experience. Will learn how to move on a snowboard with 1 foot strapped in to sliding down the hill on heel and toeside at the platter area.

Level 2: Can confidently come down the Platter on both edges and give direction. Starting to C-turn by going down the fall line changing edges.

Youth Intermediate

Snowboard group lessons which take place at Porters Platter Lift and Chairlift. Snowboarders aged 11-16 years learn how to connect their turns more fluently and control their speed. Introduction to simple flat ground tricks.

The programme focuses on progressing towards carved turns. Moving away from skidded turns to more controlled turns on both edges, progressing into more carved turns. They will be able to advance to more difficult terrain and make it up to the top of the mountain using T-bars. Various fun drills and exercises will be used to improve the stance and posture of the participants so bad habits are avoided in the future. Starting to get comfortable on their board, they will learn how to perform simple ground tricks such as an ollie, gliding 180 and 360 to butters.

Get riding around the whole mountain with ease and style!

NZSIA level ability:

Level 3: Can turn confidently down the Platter controlling their speed. Starting to do little jumps and explore steeper terrain. Ready to advance to the Easy Rider chairlift.

Adult Beginner

Terms & Conditions

  • A trial run and video recording during the first lesson will help find determine your place in the right skill group.
  • Group numbers are limited to 10 participants.
  • Individual video analysis will be used to visualize your progress over the span of the course.
  • In case of a closing day, back up days for the 7-Sunday programme will be communicated as early as possible.
  • In case of bad weather we will also introduce indoor technique video analysis days.
  • Our snowsports manager will send an email the day before the programme with an update on the weather and if we’re making a call in the morning.
  • The program fee cannot be refunded due to cancellations or injuries during the course.
  • Programme entry does not include lift pass, this must be purchased separately.
  • Lessons will start on the hour so please ensure you are ready to be at the meeting point.
  • Minimum of 4 people needed for the programme to go ahead. If not enough people are booked in, you will receive a credit instead that can be used for lessons.
