9:30am update:

We have got all lifts spinning.

Pleased to report that after a quick lap round the upper mountain, goggles remained firmly in place, winds are not as strong as forecasted. All elevations have soft spring snow.

In terms of terrain:

- The lower T2 lift track has a lot of wind transported gravel in it. Doesn't look pretty but it's do-able

- Sundance is groomed and skiing really well - soft slushy turns

- Exit from Sundance is probably best via McNulty's

- Stellar Bowl is thin - Stellar Cat Track is the better choice

We should get Bluff open this morning. Expect a spicy entry and exit.

It's actually shaping up to be an unexpectedly fun day. We will keep the upper mountain lifts going as long as the wind allows. Passes will be half price today.



Porters will be open this morning with the chair lift, platter and magic carpet lifts spinning.

The temperature at 5:45am is 5 degrees. Skies are mostly clear this morning, high clouds may increase later this afternoon.

There is a moderate to strong northwest wind on the lower mountain, increasing to strong enough to rip your goggles off and send them to Timaru on the upper mountain. Because we don’t want to litter Timaru with lost goggles, we will not be opening our upper mountain lifts today.

Lift operations may be impacted by wind at times today.

In addition to a steady supply of plenty of Canterbury’s finest fresh air, we will be offering half price passes today. It doesn’t get much better than that!

There could be some fun (and seriously good value) skiing and riding today.

Chains are not required for our access road today. We recommend that all vehicles carry chains in winter, as conditions can change rapidly.

Our free shuttle service will be doing return trips throughout the day, picking up at Chain Bay 2 (and the lodge on request) at 9:30am and 10:30am. Return shuttles will be available until we close.
