Porters is open today, with all lifts spinning from 9am.
The sun is out, there’s a light refreshing breeze, temperatures are going to be pleasant, and after another 20cm of new snow this week, the skiing and riding are going to be sublime.
Make the effort and come and join us at the closest ski area to Christchurch, where kids 10 and under ski for free and the vibe is always welcoming and friendly. It’s going to be a day for sunblock and smiles.
After an amazing day yesterday, today could once again be the best day of the season – we have been getting a few of them recently!
SLOPES
We have groomed Sundance and our intermediate upper and mid mountain trails through McNulty’s Basin and Stellar Bowl wide. After a refresh from our snow making system overnight, Easy Street and the Learners Area will offer some great conditions today to practice your turns and build confidence. We expect to open most of our terrain this morning, including Bluff Face, and possibly Big Mama.
WEATHER
The temperature at 5:30am is 2 degrees. Skies are clear; there is currently a light northwest breeze, which is forecast to continue all day. With sun and warm temperatures in the forecast, pack the sunblock and get ready for some fun turns in soft snow later today.
ROAD
Chains will not be required on 4wd vehicles today. We have a few icy patches on the upper access road. Therefore, chains will be required on 2wd vehicles from chain bay 3 at Longspur first thing this morning. Please fit them where indicated. We do not hire or sell snow chains.
With sun and warm temperatures expected today, these icy patches should be gone quickly this morning, and it is likely that by mid-morning, chains will not be required for any vehicles.
SHUTTLE
Our shuttle service will be running return trips throughout the day picking up at Chain Bay 2, and the Lodge on request, at 8:45am, 9:30am, 10am, 10:30am and 11:00am.
Return shuttles will be available all afternoon.
RENTALS
New for this winter, we have a range of Black Crows demo skis, in all sizes, available in our rentals department. Skis are $79 a day, or $99 with Lange boots. Pop into rentals if you already have a pass, see Antoine and the team, and get fitted out with some great high-end skis, and make the most of the awesome conditions on the mountain this weekend.
LODGE / SNOWPLAY
Porters Lodge Restaurant and Bar, just 6km up our access road, will be open for coffee from 9am, and meals from 11am. Pop in for a bite to eat after your day on the mountain, the food will impress.
Snowplay at the Lodge will be open from 10am-4pm today. You will not need to fit snow chains to access Porters Lodge.
