Snow Report
Last update: Saturday, 8th Aug 2026
Porters is open with all lifts running from 9am.
As always, kids 10 and under ski for free at Porters - the closest ski area to Christchurch, known for its friendly and fun vibe, with a great variety of terrain for all skill levels.
WEATHER
At 5:45am we have partly cloudy skies, light northwesterly winds in the base area, increasing to light to moderate on the upper mountain. The temperature is 3 degrees. The forecast is for similar conditions to continue throughout the day, with a chance of some snow at upper elevations late afternoon.
MOUNTAIN
Upper and mid mountain trails through McNulty’s and Stellar Bowl are holding great snow. With fresh cord laid down overnight, there will be some excellent on-trail skiing this morning. With softening snow expected due to warmer temperatures, combined with wind blown stashes building, our upper and mid mountain terrain will offer plenty of variety and fun all day.
Easy Street and the Beginners Area have had 4 days of constant snowmaking this week. Groomed wide and with perfect cord, our lower mountain terrain will be the place to build confidence and progress your skills.
ROAD
Our road today is chain free. We recommend that all vehicles carry chains in winter, as conditions can change rapidly.
WHAT’S ON TODAY
Atomic and Armada are at Porters this Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with the full demo fleet on-mountain so you can test before you invest.
Get on the Atomic Maverick and Maven – all-mountain freeride favourites for men and women – the playful Bent for park and jib days, or try the brand-new Decode.
On the Armada side, throw down on the ARV, the ultimate playful all-mountain ski, or check out the Antimatter range, including the Antimatter 114 – coming with a lot of pedigree, with Wānaka athlete Ben Richards riding it to FWT success. Whether you're chasing pow, park laps, or just want honest feedback from the Atomic and Armada team, swing by and get hands-on with the newest skis in the range before you hit the shop floor.
SHUTTLE
Our shuttle service will be running return trips throughout the day picking up at Chain Bay 2, and the Lodge on request, at 8:45am, 9:30am, 10am, 10:30am and 11:00am.
Return shuttles will be available all afternoon.
LODGE / SNOWPLAY
Porters Lodge Restaurant and Bar, just 6km up our access road, will be open for coffee from 9am, and meals from 11am. Pop in for a bite to eat after your day on the mountain, the food will impress.
Snowplay at the Lodge will be open from 10am-4pm today. You will not need to fit snow chains to access Porters Lodge.
Looking forward to seeing you all up here!
