Porters is open today, with all lifts running from 9am.
After a couple of days of wild weather, the sun is going to come out, the wind is dropping, and it’s setting up to be a stunning winter’s day to kick off August!
Our access road will be open at 8am, as we need to do some minor control work first thing.
We have received about 20cm of snow from the storm of the last two days. This was accompanied by some very strong winds at times. There are going to be areas that have been wind affected, and some spots with deep drifts. There will be a lot of fun to be had today if you go looking.
We are hoping to get Bluff Face open today, along with other terrain where possible. We have groomed our intermediate upper and mid mountain trails through McNulty’s Basin and Stellar Bowl wide overnight. Easy Street and the Learners Area will offer some great conditions today to practice your turns and build confidence.
The temperature at 5:45am is minus 4. Skies are clearing, there is currently a light to moderate south west breeze, which is forecast to reduce as the day goes on. Skies are expected to clear by mid morning. Winter has returned, so wrap up warm, pack the sunblock and come up and enjoy a beautiful day at Porters.
The vibe, as always, will be fun — we are the closest ski area to Christchurch, and kids 10 and under get free lift passes.
ROAD
Chains are required on 2wd vehicles from chain bay 2, and 4wd vehicles from chain bay 3 at Longspur. Please fit them where indicated. We do not sell or hire chains.
If you don’t have chains, or would prefer not to drive our access road, there will be a free shuttle for skiers and snowboarders. Our shuttle service will be running return trips throughout the day picking up at chain bay 2, and the Lodge on request, at 8:45am, 9:30am, 10am, 10:30am and 11:00am.
Return shuttles will be available all afternoon.
LODGE / SNOWPLAY
Porters Lodge Restaurant and Bar, just 6km up our access road, will be open for coffee from 9am, and meals from 11am. Pop in for a bite to eat after your day on the mountain, the food will impress.
Snowplay at the Lodge will be open from 10am-4pm today. If you have a 2wd vehicle, you will need to fit snow chains at chain bay 2 to access Porters Lodge.
