Stay in the mountains in your camper van! Porters Lodge offers 4 powered sites and 15 unpowered sites that are suitable for camper vans, caravans, house buses, cars with rooftop tents – you name it. Come and enjoy an alpine camping experience far away from everything.
When you camp at Porters Lodge, you will have access to the lodge lounge, free wifi and shower and bathrooms facilities 24/7. We also have a bunch of board games to play and you will find a games room in the downstairs of the lodge. Our restaurant & bar serves delicious meals throughout the day, so you can take a break from cooking in your camper.
Ask our friendly staff for recommendations for things to do in the area, rent a mountain bike or just relax and enjoy the views!
Just a few things to note before you book with us:
As Porters Lodge is located in a remote, alpine environment, our facilities are different from other camping areas in New Zealand you might have been to. Before you book your stay with us please note that:
- To get to the lodge you will have to drive about 6km on an unsealed gravel road. Although the road is unsealed, it’s well taken care of and not steep.
- The lodge does not have a communal kitchen or fridges for campers to use.
- As the lodge is a licensed premise, consuming your own food & drinks can only be done at the camping area. Please respect our license and hard-working staff, and do not bring your own food & drinks into the lodge.
- The bins by the lodge are reserved for lodge rubbish and recycling only. Please be considerate and take what you brought with you.
- As the lodge has a limited water supply directly from the mountains, we unfortunately cannot accommodate filling camper van tanks.
- We do not have on-site waste water dump station. Please see Campermate app or AA map to see the closest one on your route.
- Due to the strain on our power system, we cannot offer powered sites during the winter season.
