To help answer your question at our busiest times, below are the answers to our most commonly asked questions.
Opening and Closing Dates
Our lifts operate from 9am to 4pm, seven days a week. Sometimes lifts may be on hold due to difficult weather; the quickest way to stay up-to-date with the lift status on any given day, is to read our Snow Report. We update that before anything else!
Forecast and Conditions
We update our Snow Report with live weather frequently each day (also includes live webcams so you can see the current conditions for yourself!)
How to find us
We are located just over an hours drive from Christchuch, on SH73 between Arthur's Pass and Christchurch. Find out more about how to find us and alternative ways to get here.
Are chains needed?
Whether chains are needed depends on the amount of snow or ice on the road, and whether there is more snow forecast. Sometimes we require chains to be in your vehicle and will check before you head up the mountain. This is to ensure you can safely travel down the mountain if the forecast snow arrives! Check out our Snow Report for daily updates.
Mountain shuttles and snow chains
We offer a free shuttle bus from the Porters access road (just a couple of km off SH73). It only operates on days that chains are required. We update signage throughout the day, so take a look at the signs and if chains are not required, just drive yourself up to the top car park! You can find out if chains are required each day by reading our Snow Report.

You can book yourself a shuttle from Christchurch that will drop you right at our door. Find out more about the options here.
What needs to be pre-booked?
Day passes, group lessons, packages and our rental equipment cannot be booked in advance. Just arrive at Guest Services as early as possible to guarantee your spot (we recommend arriving at least an hour before a group lesson to give you the best chance of a place). You may book a private lesson on the day, at the ticket office.
Tobogganing or playing in the snow
We have a small area adjacent to the chairlift that can be used for snow play/tobogganing. We also have rental toboggans available for $15.
Rides on the chairlift
Guests can only travel on the Easy Rider chairlift with skis or a snowboard (and are competent to get down again safely). No 'foot passengers' can ride the chair.
