Children Intermediate

Ski group lessons which take place at Porters Platter Lift and Chairlift. Skiers aged 5-10 learn how to bring their wedge turn into parallel turns, controlling speed and introduction on how to use poles.

Focus lies with progressing towards parallel skiing. Moving away from using a wedge to control speed and turns, children will be able to advance to more difficult terrain and make it up to the top of the mountain using T-bars. Various fun drills and exercises will be used to improve the stance and posture of the child so bad habits are avoided in the future. Once the group has mastered parallel turns, the use of ski poles will be included in this ability group too.

Lesson times: 2 hours in the morning, from 9am-11am, to make the best out of the fresh cord. Then participants hit the slopes again in the afternoon, from 1pm-2pm, to rehearse the newly acquired skills.

Have your child following you around the entire mountain with ease!

NZSIA level ability:

Level 3: Can link strong snowplow turns or wide stance parallel on the gentle slopes at the beginner’s area, almost ready to progress to the chairlift. *

Level 4: Able to ski parallel turns with pole plant. Can ski most blue runs, more advanced blues remain a challenge. Would like to explore more varied terrain. *

*Please note that Porters chairlift provides a steeper blue run which can be intimidating for level 3 & 4 participants. A ski trial run in the first lesson will decide last minute changes if the instructor thinks more practice at the beginner terrain is required.

*Usage of poles will be advised by instructors during the course.
