Ski Play Package
Skiplay is a beginner group lesson designed for children under the age of 5. The primary focus is on creating a fun and positive environment that encourages young children to develop a love for skiing. The programme aims to introduce children to skiing through games and activities that promote balance, coordination, and movement. Skiplay lessons are delivered by trained instructors who are experienced in working with young children and are skilled in creating a safe and supportive learning environment. Absolute first timers only. If your child has already been skiing and is able to stop and turn by themselves, we recommend booking a private lesson until they are old enough for youth group lessons.
1.5 hours 3-5 years old Maximum 5 people per group Beginner level skiing only
Things you will learn:
- Safely carry equipment and know how it works
- Put on and take off skis
- Move around on skis
- Side step and/or duck walk and/or skate
- Ski down short hill balancing on both skis
- Practice making a wedge, making it bigger to stop
- Ride the Beginner lift and get on and off safely
- Get up independently when falling

Beginner Package
Beginner group lessons are designed for youth and adults who are entirely new to skiing or snowboarding. These lessons focus on introducing participants to the fundamentals of the sport, including basic movements, balance, and control. The goal of the beginner lessons is to help participants feel comfortable on the snow and confident in their ability to perform basic manoeuvres. The lessons are taught by experienced instructors who are able to provide personalised coaching and feedback to each participant.
Adults & Youth > 5 yrs. Maximum 10 people per lesson Skiing & Snowboarding Beginners level only (Level 1)
In Level 1 ski you will learn:
- Safely carry equipment and know how it works
- Put on and take off skis
- Side step and/or duck walk and/or skate
- Ski down short hill balancing on both skis
- Practice making a wedge, making it bigger to stop
- Ride the Beginner lift and get on and off safely
- Get up independently if fallen over
- Turn on gentle terrain
In level 1 snowboard you will learn:
- Safely carry equipment and know how it works
- Basic stance and the four ways to move
- Skate, glide, climb with the front foot strapped in
- One-foot straight run and a J-turn left and right
- Strap in both feet and stand up independently
- Heel side control, side slip and floating leaf
- Toe side control, side slip and floating leaf
- Ride the Beginner lift and get on and off safely

Skiing & Snowboarding
Beginners level only (Level 1 & 2)

Beginner Plus
Beginner+ lessons are designed for youth and adults who have completed the beginner lessons and are ready to progress to the next level. These lessons focus on building on the skills learned in the beginner lessons, with a particular emphasis on developing turning and stopping techniques. Participants will also learn how to navigate different types of terrain and conditions. The lessons are taught by experienced instructors who are able to provide personalized coaching and feedback to each participant.
Adults & Youth > 5 yrs. Maximum 10 people per lesson Skiing Beginners level only (Level 2)
In level 2 ski you will learn:
- Ski maintaining good balance
- Practice gliding in a wedge
- Change direction by pointing the wedge left and right
- Control speed with big S shape turns
- Use turns to stop
- Hop whilst skiing
- Link turns on green runs
- Know how to ride the pommer lift and get on and off
- Know how to ride chairlift and get on and off (depending on group ability)

Easy Rider Package
Easy Rider
Easy Rider lessons are designed for youth and adults who have completed the beginner+ lessons and are ready to progress to the next level. These lessons focus on developing the skills needed to tackle more challenging terrain, including steeper slopes and varied snow conditions.
Participants will learn how to adjust their technique to different situations and develop greater control and confidence on the snow. Experience on chairlift is required (Our chairlift access to slopes differs from other resorts, please enquire with snowsport@skiporters,co.nz if you’re unsure about your abilities. The lessons are taught by experienced instructors who are able to provide personalized coaching and feedback to each participant.

Prerequisite: Must be able to ride a chairlift Maximum 5 people per group Skiing only Intermediate Level only (Level 3)
In level 3 ski you will learn:
- Balance on outside ski when turning
- Steer skis parallel at the end of turns
- Control speed by making round turns on easy blue terrain
- Change turns to slow down around other people
- Keep arms out to the side & in front slightly to help balance
- Glide backwards in a wedge on a beginner run
- Start to learn park safety etiquette & ski over a box
